St. Joe’s, Righetti High Schools placed on brief lockdown Tuesday

ORCUTT, Calif. – Two Orcutt High Schools were placed on temporary lockdowns Tuesday afternoon. The precautionary lockdowns stemmed from an argument between two students.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's investigators determined the supposed threat stemmed from an argument between two students on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 7:20 a.m., Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a possible threat circulating on social media at St. Joseph's High School.

Sheriff's deputies in Santa Maria responded to the school along with the Righetti School Resource Deputy.

Deputies began an investigation into the source and credibility of the threat.

A shelter-in-place was ordered for everyone on campus.

At around 8:00 a.m., deputies made contact with an involved student and found that the student was not a danger to others.

Deputies investigated the student further and found that the incident began from a verbal argument between two students that was said to inaccurately relay into a threat of violence on campus.

At around 9:30 a.m., the lockdown was lifted.

No one was injured from this incident.
