Vehicle strikes pedestrian, kills dog on Highway 246 in Buellton

BUELLTON, Calif. - Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian at Highway 246 and Sycamore Drive in Buellton.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Santa Barbara County Fire responded with two fire engines and a battalion chief. CALSTAR also responded with an aerial ambulance and AMR with a ground ambulance.

SB County Fire said the first arriving engine at the scene reported finding a victim who had been struck by a vehicle.

The victim was described as a woman who had been walking her dog across the street. Sadly, the dog died at the scene.

The woman is being airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for the treatment of traumatic injuries.

SBC Fire is staying on scene to help with cleanup.

CHP is also on scene. They closed Highway 246 at Riverview and Valley Dairy around 9:48 p.m. and will keep it closed for a few more hours.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is on scene investigating the crash. They said the driver remained on scene.
