Police Share Updates on Coast Village Road Bank Robbery As Suspect Remains At Large

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – The Bank of America on Coast Village Road was robbed Wednesday afternoon and police are turning to the public for help locating the at-large suspect.

On Friday, Aug. 21, local investigators shared an image of the suspect who is described as a middle-aged adult man who was wearing dark clothes, a black medical mask, and a dark hat.

On Aug. 19, around 2:56 p.m., dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about a robbery in progress at the Bank of America at 1096 Coast Village Road stated a press release from the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Bank employees shared with investigators that a masked person entered the bank, brandished what appeared to be a firearm, demanded money and then fled the area on a bicycle detailed the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Detectives have learned since the robbery that the man had brandished a piece of metal "configured" to resemble a handgun shared the Santa Barbara Police Department Friday.

According to local police, the man obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the area westbound on Coast Village Road on a dark-colored bicycle.

Officers and Sheriff's deputies searched the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the suspect who remains at large shared the local law enforcement agency.

According to Santa Barbara Police, the incident appears to be isolated and it is not currently believe that there is an ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
