GOLETA, Calif. – Caltrans work to replace the San Jose Creek Bridge on Highway 217 continues this week, saying the Highway 217 project will demolish the northbound bridge.

Caltrans said one lane will remain open in each direction on the westbound side so travelers can continue to drive to UCSB and access the bike path which is now behind a protective barrier.

According to the City of Goleta and Caltrans, "The eastbound SR 217 on-ramp at Sandspit Road will remain closed for the duration of the project, estimated at two years. Travelers leaving the Santa Barbara Airport can use Fairview Avenue and Hollister Avenue to reach US 101. Additional electronic message boards have been activated to assist airport visitors."

The construction is expected to be completed by June 2026.
