Isaiah Ramirez Alexander convicted of second-degree murder and burglary charges
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Santa Barbara County District Attorney John T. Savrnoch announced on Monday that Isaiah Ramirez Alexander has been found guilty of murder in the second degree, shooting at an inhabited vehicle, and burglary.
Alexander is currently being held without bail and awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled on Oct. 19 of this year where he faces up to 121 years to life in state prison detail Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
These charges stem from various incidents from Feb. 9 to Feb. 14 of 2022.
According to Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office, Alexander burglarized a residential apartment in Santa Barbara on Feb. 9, 2022, which led to a shootout the next day on Feb. 10 inside one of the rooms at Pacifica Suites Hotel in Goleta.
After the shootout in the hotel room between Alexander and Richard Cardona on Feb. 10, Alexander chased the fleeing Cardona to a vehicle where he shot and killed Cardona detail Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
Alexander burglarized the Riviera store and was arrested in possession of stolen property from that store at a La Quinta Inn on Feb. 14, 2022, relay Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
Santa Barbara District Attorney John T. Savrnoch said, “Thank you to the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s personnel led by Detective Maxwell for superb work on a difficult investigation and the Prosecution Team led by Senior Deputy Kevin Weichbrod for their work in holding this individual accountable for his actions.”
The Monday announcement from Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office lists the following convictions for Alexander based on the described incidents: second-degree murder, shooting at an inhabited vehicle, residential burglary, and commercial burglary.
Additionally, the following special allegations and enhancements were part of Alexander's conviction: discharging a firearm causing death, two out-on-bail enhancements, and having two prior (violent) strike convictions.
At the time of these above crimes, Alexander was out on bail in two other cases where he still has pending charges for carjacking, attempted robbery, vehicle theft, and identity theft detail Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office.
