Homeless Point-in-Time count conducted Wednesday

Santa Barbara County

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.– Officials conducted the Homeless Point-in-Time count to measure the homeless population county-wide.

The homeless census is focused on those living on the street, in vehicles or RV's, in parks and riverbeds, and in shelters. Hundreds of volunteers spread out across Santa Barbara county early this morning to talk to those who are homeless and why.

The count last year revealed Santa Barbara and Santa Maria had the largest homeless populations in the county.

Data collected from the point-in-time count is used to fund local programs including affordable housing to reduce homelessness.
