Driver in fatal collision near Gaviota arrested for potential DUI in Friday morning crash
SANTA BARBARA, County - California Highway Patrol announced just before 2 p.m. Friday that the driver responsible for the deaths of two young women was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
CHP has identified the two victims of a fatal car crash Friday morning on Highway 1 near Gaviota as 19-year-old Jenna Causby and 20-year-old Dorothyann Guthrie of Lompoc.
The two women were traveling on Highway 1 north when a driver of a Ford C-Max tried to overtake slower traffic crashing head on into the two driving a Chevy Malibu.
Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to the scene where both car were ablaze and severely crushed in the front. As firefighters tackled the flames, emergency services located those involved in the crash.
SBC Fire pronounced two dead at the scene, while another was critically injured and transported to SB Cottage Hospital.
The driver has been identified as a 22-year-old male Goleta resident who suffered major injury in the crash. Charges against the man are pending a toxicology report.
