Burn victim transported to hospital after residential fire in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - One person was transported to Cottage Hospital on Wednesday morning following a residential structure fire, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

The fire department received a call with reports of a structure fire on the 200 block of Equestrian Avenue in Santa Barbara just before 7:00 a.m., according to fire department.

On the way to the scene, crews spotted thick, white smoke, and the battalion chief declared the fire a working fire – meaning that there were still active flames, the department said.

One room was fully involved with flames, with some of the fire extending up to the second floor of the building.

One victim was transported to the hospital for burn injuries, but the extent of the injuries were unknown, according to the department.

Some neighbors had self-evacuated, and the Santa Barbara Police Department came to help evacuate other neighboring residents, the fire department said.

The fire was knocked down shortly after crews arrived.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the fire department said that it appeared to have been accidental in nature.

Four engines, a ladder truck, and a battalion chief all responded to the scene.
