The two suspects were apprehended after they crashed the car they were using to run.

CARPINTERIA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of people breaking into cars at the Fairview Center and possibly the Calle Real Shopping Center in Goleta.

The reporting party gave sheriff's deputies a description of the suspects' vehicle and their license plate number. The Sheriff's Office then broadcast the vehicle information to other deputies in the area.

A Carpinteria deputy spotted the suspect vehicle on the U.S. 101 southbound near Padaro Lane. The deputy tried to get close to the vehicle in order to perform a traffic stop, but the vehicle started driving erratically before the deputy attempted to stop it.

The vehicle, a black sedan, ended up crashing into another car on the U.S. 101 southbound just north of Santa Ynez. There were no injuries reported as a result of the crash.

Two occupants, described as a black woman and black man, exited the suspect vehicle and ran. The woman was apprehended by deputies fairly close to the site of the crash.

The Sheriff's Office said the man continued to run south to Carpinteria Avenue and then down Estero Street. During the time the man was running, he reportedly entered someone's car in the general area and ran through someone's backyard.

Deputies say the man also managed to change his clothes at some point during the chase.

The Sheriff's Office deployed air support and a K9 unit to track the suspect. The K9 unit finally located the man at Estero Street and deputies successfully took him into custody.

After further investigation, the deputies found that the vehicle the two suspects were using was stolen from San Jose.

The Santa Barbra Sheriff's Office has not yet released the identities of the suspects.
