San Luis Obispo Man Arrested for Domestic Violence and Threats After Brief Standoff

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (KEYT) – A 39-year-old San Luis Obispo man was arrested for domestic violence and criminal threats after a brief standoff on Homestead Place Thursday.

On Aug. 6, around 12:24 p.m., local law enforcement received a call from a woman reported that her boyfriend had threatened to harm her at their home in the 1800 block of Homestead Place stated a press release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

According to San Luis Obispo Police, the woman also reported that her 39-year-old boyfriend legally owned several firearms and had also threatened to harm neighbors and responding officers.

Arriving officers met with the woman outside of the home and prepared a perimeter, asked neighbors to leave their nearby homes, closed surrounding streets to traffic, and deployed aerial drones as part of their response out of an abundance of caution explained the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Members of the Crisis Negotiations Team established communications with the 39-year-old over a mobile home and after 30 minutes of negotiations, the man surrendered to law enforcement without further incident shared the local police department.

The 39-year-old was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment of an undisclosed medical condition before he was booked at the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of felony criminal threats, felony domestic violence causing bodily injury, and misdemeanor domestic battery detailed the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

A search warrant was executed at the home after the 39-year-old was taken into custody and detectives recovered a registered handgun following the search added the local police department.
