Cambria Fire Department successfully assists kayaker in distress off Cambria coastline

CAMBRIA, Calif. – Cambria Fire Department and San Luis Obispo County Fire Department completed a successful water assist Thursday afternoon.

Two kayakers off the coast north of Cambria near Moonstone Beach Drive were fishing when one fell out of their kayak and needed assistance.

The U. S. Coast Guard was alerted and enlisted the help of local responders with the Cambria Fire Department, which maintains two rescue boats and has trained rescue swimmers, and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department which also has water rescue trained swimmers.

One rescue swimmer made contact with the kayaker in distress and towed their unmanned kayak and the person to safety detail Cambria Fire Department.

According to Cambria Fire Department, there were no injuries for all parties involved.
