“Cabins for Change” open in Grover Beach to address homelessness in the community
GROVER BEACH, Calif.– Temporary housing project "Cabins for Change" opens in Grover Beach to address homelessness in the community. The 20 cabins provide individual private shelter, 24/7 support, case management, and recover and housing stability guidance for homeless individuals.
"Cabins for Change" is a product of a partnership between the city of Grover Beach, SLO county, and the 5Cities Homeless Coalition's effort to reduce the homeless population by 50 percent in five years.
“Local governments and nonprofit agencies like 5CHC are making a coordinated effort to address homelessness in SLO County, and the City is proud to assist in creating the first shelter space in South County,” said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. “We are grateful that this partnership has allowed us to take this significant step towards addressing homelessness in our community.”
Nine individuals have already moved into their own space and are onboarding into the care system. The housing facility will be fully occupied by Jan. 15. The intention of the housing project is to connect and assist individuals reach long-term housing stability.
