KEYT/MGN

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.– A 24-year-old person of interest has been identified by the San Luis Obispo Police Department in the shocking deaths of SLO couple Matthew Chachere and Jennifer Besser, and their dog.

During the course of the investigation, SLO Police determined the 24-year-old may be the driver of the car that struck the couple and dog while they were out for a walk on Nov. 21 in the 3400 block of Sacramento Drive.

Police initially responded to reports of a dead dog in the area before connecting it to a missing person report of the couple whose family members provided a picture that law enforcement recognized as the same animal.

Law enforcement had previous contact with the identified driver that day as the 24-year-old had lost control of their car hitting a curb and street sign on Sacramento Drive, according to a traffic report.

Police were unaware the driver potentially struck the couple.

San Luis Obispo Police remain diligent in their investigation and continue to ask the public to come forward with any information regarding the incident. If anyone feels you have information that could benefit investigators, please do not hesitate in contacting San Luis Obispo Police Department at 805-781-7312 or Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
