SLO County Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong taking new job in another county

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. -- San Luis Obispo County's Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong will be taking a new job in another county in an announcement on Friday morning.

Gong has accepted another job in Contra Costa County as their Deputy County Clerk-Recorder.

Gong has been working in San Luis Obispo County for 16 years.

Gong says he has decided to accept the new job to be closer to his parents after years of working in San Luis Obispo County. He says the pandemic has helped him refocus his attention towards his elderly parents.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime and extremely fortunate for me, as I have desired to be closer to my family," said Gong.

Gong recently filled two Deputy Director positions that were created to support the increasing demands of the department.

“We are at full capacity, staff-wise, and I know I am leaving the office in great hands with equally committed and dedicated staff through the transition.”

Gong's last day will be July 2.

Gong previously worked in Stanislaus County before arriving in San Luis Obispo County. He was elected as the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder in 2014.

“I am truly grateful to San Luis Obispo County for providing me the opportunity to serve the community and hone my craft in elections and Clerk-Recorder functions. I will carry fond memories of spending almost a 1/3 of my life here," said Gong.
