Isla Vista parking survey aimed at freeing up more spaces in the overcrowded area
ISLA VISTA, Calif. - Not only is it known for overcrowded housing, Isla Vista is also known for over packed parking.
Rarely can you find a place to park on the streets close to where you live or are going to shop and eat.
The Isla Vista Community Services District (IVCSD) has launched a comprehensive Isla Vista Parking Study Survey to look for solutions.
The survey has gone out and it is available online in both English and Spanish. Responses to the survey will help shape the future of parking in Isla Vista.
The parking suggestions from the survey will be included so that the Isla Vista Parking Study represents current community needs.
IVCSD has hired Dixon Resources Unlimited for this project.
There will be a year’s worth of data collection, followed by recommendations for solutions. The study ends in the summer of 2024. The total cost of the study is $246,000. IVCSD, UC Santa Barbara, and the County of Santa Barbara are splitting it evenly.
The parking situation can be so bad, with multiple residents at each address, that cars are stacked up in driveways and in many areas they are over the sidewalks, blocking access for those who are mobility challenged.
