2 hospitalized after head-on crash in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif. — According to California Highway Patrol, two people were hospitalized after a head-on crash Friday evening in Oxnard.

The collision happened in the westbound lanes of Highway 34 east of Wood Road at approximately 5:15 p.m.

CHP says the crash involved 70-year-old Jorge Alvarez from Ventura, who was driving a 1995 Nissan. The other driver, a 32-year-old resident from Searcy, Kansas, was driving a 2021 Jeep and had a passenger in the vehicle.

Both drivers sustained moderate to major injuries, according to CHP officers at the scene.

"One party was airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment," said the CHP report. "And another party was transported via ambulance to St. John's Hospital in Oxnard."

CHP say Alvarez was airlifted to VCMC and the Kansas resident was transported by ambulance to St. John's.

The westbound lane on HWY 34 was closed for approximately two hours while CHP investigated the collision and cleared the roadway of debris.

However, CHP says they have yet to determine what led to the crash. The collision remains under investigation.
