New Student Wellness Space Opens at Santa Barbara High

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - Santa Barbara High School has opened a new Wellness Center.

It's designed to give students a place to step away when the school day becomes overwhelming.

“Student athlete, taking a bunch of hard classes ... and also being the president. It gets really stressful!” student Yesenia Dunn said.

The space was created through a partnership with the Grace Fisher Foundation and offers students a quiet place to reset during the day.

Students can use the room for a short break and take advantage of stress toys, coloring pages and other activities.

“Sometimes, if you just need that 10 minute break, this room is pretty good, but you have like stress toys, and coloring pages,” Dunn said.

The center also gives classmates a place where they can feel understood.

“Everyone has struggles so I think it’s a place where students can relate to each other and things like that," student Jules Horton said.

“I hope for them to reach out and like actually come to the wellness room because we have a great coordinator who’s open to talk to you,” Dunn said.

School leaders hope students leave the Wellness Center feeling supported and ready to return to class.
