Camarillo police release numbers on seizures of illegal firearms

Ventura County Sheriff's Office

CAMARILLO, Calif. - The Camarillo Police Department is working to keep illegal firearms off the street and out of the hands of criminals.

The department uses what's called a "Special Enforcement Detail" to investigate illegal firearms and they just released last year's numbers.

Police conducted multiple investigations in 2019 and those investigations led to the seizure 129 handguns and rifles and over 25,000 rounds of ammunition.

Police said many of the firearms and weapons were illegally possessed assault rifles, stolen guns and numerous guns without serial numbers and 'ghost guns.' Police also confiscated a flamethrower last year.

Numerous arrests were made and the weapons are being held as evidence or safekeeping by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

Anyone who suspects someone may be in possession of illegal firearms, or if you yourself are in possession of one, you can contact the Camarillo Police Department.
