Oak Park Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking Elderly Stepfather With Knife

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 40-year-old Oak Park was arrested after attacking his stepfather with a knife at an East Sunny Vista Avenue home Thursday.

On July 30, deputies were dispatched for a reported assault with a deadly weapon at a home in the 5900 block of East Sunny Vista Avenue stated a press release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, the 70-year-old Oak Park woman told dispatchers that her son was attacking her 80-year-old husband with a knife.

Deputies entered the home to discover the 40-year-old man standing over his 80-year-old stepfather who was lying on the floor and bleeding from multiple injuries detailed the local sheriff's office.

The mobility-impaired 80-year-old was provided medical aid before being transported to a local hospital and shared with deputies that he believed they had saved his life by taking the 40-year-old into custody at the scene noted the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

An investigation revealed that the 40-year-old had allegedly become enraged after a family discussion and armed himself with an approximately ten-inch butcher knife form the kitchen before assaulting his 80-year-old stepfather explained the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

After the investigation, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office stated that the 40-year-old was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious injury, and felony elder abuse.

He remains in custody with bail set $200,000 and is currently scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 3 of this year added the local sheriff's office.
