Help for horses displaced by L.A. fires is coming to SLO
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Help for horses displaced by the L.A. fires is on its way from Oregon, and making a pit stop on the central coast.
As the smoke clears from the Los Angeles wildfires that have destroyed so much property and displaced so many people, the needs of animals are also on people's minds.
Horse enthusiasts from two different states are teaming up in San Luis Obispo county this weekend.
“Shell Beach has a place in my heart as well. And I'm so happy to be here for at least a few days, which is where Fran has organized additional donations,” says Angi Carelli, who lives in Oregon.
Carelli, a horse enthusiast from southern Oregon changed travel plans in order to collect donations of items of equestrian care like feed, saddles, shoes, blankets, and more.
“I actually used to live in Long Beach, and we did a lot of horse rescue and long and Long Beach for different organizations. So it's always kind of been a part of my soul to help horses and animals in general,” says Carelli.
Fran Natale, a friend of Angi's and resident of Shell Beach, is hosting a similar equestrian donation drive locally, and the two of them are joining forces.
“If anyone has spare horse equipment, supplies from saddles, bridles, halters, products, brushes, buckets, feed, they can be dropped off at my house,” says Natale.
U-Haul is donating the use of this 6-by-12 trailer to aid in delivery, since the influx of donations is significant.
“Whatever we can do to alleviate the owners of these animals, whatever we can supply for them, that's missing,” says Carelli.
They plan to deliver the supplies to multiple facilities in los angeles that are hosting displaced horses.
