Youth Council invites community to 2024 Youth Speak Out event in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 2024 youth speak out is a workshop that encourages teens to advocate for changes in the Santa Barbara community.

The Youth Council will discuss topics including public safety, mental health resources for teens, and how teens can take a more active role in their local government.

"We want youth from our community we want classmates and peers to come and be able to ask questions about the future of our community to our local leaders. Council members, chief of police, etc.," said chair Tiago Eckstein of the Youth Council.

The discussion will highlight the youth perspective on local issues while creating a foundation for change in Santa Barbara.

Organizers believe the Santa Barbara Youth Council is a great way to connect teens with their local leaders for conversations about positive change.

"This is open to anyone under the age of 18 who wants to come talk about local issues in our community. We’re really hoping to get a diverse group of people here from all the different high schools, different ages, junior high, and all sorts of people that can bring different opinions to the speak out," said member Amelia Vander May of the Youth Council.

The  Youth Speak Out eventT will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palm Park Beach House.
