Caltrans continues repairs on Highway 33 in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. – Highway 33 will remain closed from Matilija Hot Springs Road to the Ozena Fire Station as Caltrans said it continues to repair damage from last winter's storms.
According to Caltrans, Highway 33 experienced mudslides, rockslides and sections of the roadway collapsed in the winter of 2022/23. Since January 10, 2023, 32 miles of the highway have been closed and this closure could extend into 2024.
Caltrans is advising commuters to avoid the closed area of Highway 33 until repairs are safely completed.
The repair/construction project is estimated to cost $35 million, according to Caltrans.
