World’s largest birds flock together during rainstorm at Ostrichland USA
SOLVANG, Calif. - After several days of heavy rain managers at Ostrich Land USA sayid these big birds are unfazed and ready to be fed.
But the rain took a hit for the popular big bird sanctuary.
" riverbed overflowed and all the debris caught onto our fences and took a few of them down throughout our property," said assistant manager Destiny Stevenson of Ostrich Land USA.
The sanctuary shut down for two days in order to fix broken fences.Â
But while the fences were still down, the ostriches never left.Â
They kind of stayed up on higher ground in all of the bushes and trees around, said Stevenson.
Visitors share mixed views about why these flightless birds didn’t leave.
"I don’t think they’re very bright to figure it out but that’s okay," said visitor Leslie Tortez.
"Maybe the food is so good," said visitor Shif Riley.
"Where else would they go? This is where they feed this is where they live," said visitor Bill Penny.
Now that most of the repair work is finished, the doors have reopened to visitors.
And the sanctuary is once again seeing dozens of visitors every hour.
"Ostriches are pretty cool a little frightening. I didn’t expect them to be so aggressive for the food. But it’s a really cool experience," said visitor Pamela Neumeister.
Rain or shine, these bad bad boys are expected to stay for good.
