Salud Carbajal projected winner in 24th Congressional race
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY Calif. - Supporters from all over the community spent Tuesday evening watching the 24th congressional race at TImbers Restaurant in Goleta.
Salud Carbajal was pleased to see a big turnout.
"I am grateful to the voters for sending me to Washington for another term. I think they appreciated the constituent services that we provide and all the investments and resources we were able to bring to the central coast," said projected winner Salud Carbajal of the 24th congressional race.
Just hours after polls closed Carbajal garnered more than 63 percent of the votes over pediatric doctor and challenger, Brad Allen.
Residents in Santa Barbara are excited with the overall election turnout.
"Watching all night long because I didn’t want to sleep and I get very involved with things that are going on so i kind of shut it off about 10 o’clock and woke up very surprised we have done so well," said resident Cynthia Snyder of Santa Barbara.
“This is very good for the community … he tries his very best to keep his commitment to the community … we really appreciate that and he’s really good for the community," said resident Thepo Tulku of Santa Barbara.
Carbajal is a former Santa Barbara County supervisor for the first district.
His projected victory will give him a new two-year term.
“I’m optimistic and confident that we can keep up the gridlock sometimes we experience in Washington when it comes to our nations future i think we can come together and solve things together," said Carbajal.
Allen replied in the following statement: "I am, of course, saddened by last night's results. Being a pediatric heart surgeon, I still feel we need to start sending people with real life experience to Washington, instead of continuing to send career politicians who seem only to follow their party's ideology. Our campaign never used personal attacks, but relied on facts and provided solutions to solve the district’s problems. My hope is that the new Congress will start to look at ways to help resolve issues that are hurting people in their daily lives, just like I have for over 40 years as a doctor. Finally, I want to thank all of the good people in California's 24th Congressional District who voted for me, donated to our campaign, knocked on doors and gave up your time to get our message out to the voters along our beautiful district. It was an honor to be your candidate and an experience I will never forget. Thank you!"
