Forward progress stopped on 3 acre fire near Vandenberg AFB

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a brush fire near Vandenberg Air Force Base Tuesday evening.

Firefighters said the San Antonio Fire broke out around 6:20 p.m. along Highway 1, north of the Vandenberg Air Force Base main gate.

Firefighters said forward progress was stopped as of 7 p.m.

Crews said three acres had burned.

The fire was said to be moving at a slow rate of spread. A helicopter was called in to assist for a short time, but was canceled once firefighters got a handle on the flames.

Santa Barbara County fire said firefighters would remain on scene mopping up hot spots.
