SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - A driver was arrested for reaching speeds of 108 miles per hour through a Caltrans and CHP lane closure in eastern San Luis Obispo County.

The Templeton CHP office posted on social media Wednesday, saying the driver had accelerated while approaching a CHP officer and Caltrans workers at the Cholame Y, where Highways 41 and 46 meet.

The lane was closed at the time because of an overturned gas truck.

Officers tried to stop the driver, but the CHP says the driver hit speeds of 108 miles per hour and tried passing vehicles on the right shoulder in order to get by faster.

CHP officers eventually stopped the driver, who was arrested for reckless driving.

"Drive like you would want other people to drive if your family was on the highway with them," said the CHP's social media post.

The CHP posted a photo of the ticket that was issued, which shows the maximum speed limit was 55 miles per hour in that area.
