You can help name Santa Maria’s newest school
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The community can be part of Santa Maria history and help name the new elementary school slated to open in August of this year.
The public can submit name ideas now through February 5.
The school is located in the Enos Ranch development, near college Drive and Meehan Street. It will have up to 900 students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
There are specific guidelines in order for name ideas to be considered. The name can be a recognized historical or geological landmark, a thematic name that reflects the character of the community culturally and historically, the name of distinguished men and women who have made outstanding contributions to the community, state, nation, or mankind in the fields of arts, science, government, or education, or families with historical significance.
Street names or commercial developments are not allowed.
If you submit a name for consideration, you're asked to explain why you think the name would be appropriate for the new school.
After the February 5 deadline, a committee of students, parents, and district employees will be formed to evaluate the names and make recommendations to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District Board of Education, which will make the final decision.
