Ojai selects a new Chief of Police

OJAI, Calif. - The city of Ojai has selected Captain Jose Rivera as their new chief of police. 

Jose will replace outgoing chief, Captain Jim Fryhoff, who is being promoted to commander and will serve as the chief of police for the city of Thousand Oaks.   

Jose is a 29-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and has an extensive background in investigations that include assignments in the Major Crimes Bureau and Narcotics Unit. 

As a captain, Jose was assigned as a patrol watch commander where he managed patrol operations countywide.    

Jose has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California Coast University.  He currently resides in Camarillo with his wife, Laura, and their five children. 
 
Jose will begin his service as Ojai’s chief of police on January 12, 2020.
