PASO ROBLES, Calif. - People on the Central Coast already know Paso Robles for its great wines, and now it's getting some recognition for being one of the best places in the world to travel.

Paso Robles was ranked one of the top 30 places to travel in 2020.

The list was released Tuesday and put together by the travel blog, Travel Lemming. The website says different government and tourism boards from around the world nominated their locations as the best trending destinations in their region. Then a panel of travel bloggers voted on the top spots.

Paso Robles ranked 24 on the list. Travel Lemming gave Paso Robles props for its hundreds of wineries, as well as the Field of Light at Sensorio art installation. The article complimented Paso Robles for its mostly family-owned wineries and said there were fewer crowds compared to other famous wine regions like the Napa Valley. "Paso Robles is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend break in 2020," the article said.

The travel website said the best time to visit was from March to June and September to December.

The Visit California organization nominated Paso Robles for this year's list.

"With its historic charm, mineral-rich hot springs and expansive vineyards, Paso Robles is an emerging gem of California's famed Central Coast region," said Visit California President and CEO, Caroline Beteta. "In the past decade, the community has started to enjoy global attention for world-class winemaking and cultural attractions, while holding onto its agricultural heritage, offering a distinctive and authentic California experience for visitors to discover."

Travel Lemming was founded to highlight under-appreciated destinations as a way to fight over-tourism.
