One killed in three-car crash on Highway 1 near Orcutt

One person was killed in a crash involving an agriculture truck on Highway 1 in front of Rancho Maria Golf Club near Orcutt on Friday.

California Highway Patrol, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Santa Maria Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle crash that happened at around noon on Highway 1, south of Black Road.

A big rig loaded with celery collided with a pickup truck that was pulling out of the golf course.

The big rig overturned, which resulted in produce and debris covering the entire roadway.A Volkswagen Jetta tried to avoid the crash, but ended up on its roof in a ditch.

Four people in the Jetta and pickup truck were either uninjured or suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the big rig required extrication by fire crews, but died at the scene.

Highway 1 south of Guadalupe from Clark Avenue to Black Road was closed due to the accident. The road was expected to be closed for several hours.

Crews remained on scene to clean up and investigate the crash.
