The WheelHouse Plaza Street Fair off the 500 block of Channel Islands Blvd. in Port Hueneme attracted adults interested in checking out local cannabis companies.

Wheelhouse Premium Cannabis is just one of them.

Local say it’s okay to call Port Hueneme “Pot Hueneme” and the area where cannabis companies are located is now promoted as the “Green Mile.”

Even the Chief of Police Andrew Salinas is on board.

“So far we have upwards of 6 cannabis businesses on our “Green Mile” and it generates generally about $2.5 million a month in gross sales of which 5 percent goes to our city of Port Hueneme,” said Salinas.

Currenlty the deep sea Port of Hueneme is the cities bigges tax revenue.

He said the city gets over $2 million a year from the port.

“This cannabis industry will soon surpass that amount in terms of general tax revenue to the city,” said Salinas.

The festival also included live music, food trucks, giveaways and a fundraiser to help the Police Explorers buy a new van.
