Homicide investigators get a break in decade-old Templeton cold case

Homicide detectives with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Cold Case Investigation Unit have identified a person of interest in the slaying of 71-year-old Templeton resident Jerry Lee Greer.

Greer was found dead inside his home in the 2000 block of Santa Rita Road in Templeton on March 28, 2009.

On August 16, 2018, Sheriff’s detectives interviewed Brian Scott Greer, the victim’s son. Authorities subsequently served a search warrant at Brian Greer’s home in the 1900 block of Fieldstone Circle in Paso Robles and deemed him a person of interest in the case.

Detectives collected items from Brian Greer’s home and the investigation is ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office says they will not be commenting further on what evidence they recovered from the home.

Brian Greer is a retired state correctional officer.

Anyone who has worked with Brian Greer or who may have information on the killing of Jerry Greer is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Detective Division at 805-781-4500.
