San Marcos senior Stef Korfas hoping to ease dad’s pain of losing CIF title in 1981

In 1981 the San Marcos Runnin’ Royals entered the CIF 4A championship game with a 26-0 record.

After leading Long Beach Poly for most of the game, the Royals lost at the end.

Jon Korfas was a star player for San Marcos that year and he is now an assistant coach with the Royals and his son Stef Korfas is the starting point guard.

This Saturday the Royals will try to win the school’s first-ever CIF boys basketball title as they play Riverside-Poly for the D2A crown at 4pm at Azusa Pacific University.

Stef says his dad talks about the 1981 finals often and that it’s now time for the family to win a championship.

Jon Korfas says that this year’s Royals team is so enjoyable to be around

San Marcos enters the game riding a 15-game win streak and a 25-6 overall record.
