Charges dropped against Arroyo Grande gunshop owners

UPDATE:

Charges have been dropped against two Arroyo Grande business owners accused of illegally possessing assault weapons at their store, “The Outdoorsman,” according to the couple’s attorney, Gregory Jacobson..

Jacobson has been working with the couple since the arrest and said he expected this outcome the whole time, despite what he calls “political pressure” currently surrounding firearms sales.

The couple’s attorney is now negotiating with the Arroyo Grande Police Department to regain their permit to sell used firearms

Dylan William and Stephanie Abigail Todd, the owners of The Outdoorsman located at 1402 E Grand Avenue in Arroyo Grande, were arrested on Nov. 16 by officials with the California Department of Justice.

The arrests were made following an audit and investigation at The Outdoorsman, according to authorities.

The Arroyo Grande Police Department was later notified of the arrests and was not involved in the audit, investigation or arrests at the business. Police have directed all questions to the D.O.J, who tell us it is their policy to not comment on investigations.

“Somebody was ignorant about the firearm they had,” said Bill Plummer, the president of the SLO County Sportsmen Association. He says California’s definition of an assault rifle is much more specific than in most states.

“I’m not surprised that it happened, because when you have an assault weapon law like the one we have, you have to get down with your magnifying glass sometimes and look at your firearm and decide if it does or does not fit the bill,” Plummer said.

Plummer tells us that Dylan and Stephanie Todd have only owned the store for about six months.
