UCSB students from Las Vegas share their feelings at Isla Vista vigil

Community organizers in Isla Vista and University of California, Santa Barbara students hosted a vigil for the Las Vegas shooting victims on Monday night.

They held lights and shared their feelings at the Love & Remembrance Garden.

The garden was built to honor the six UCSB students shot and stabbed to death by a Santa Barbara City College dropout in May of 2014.

The garden has become a place of healing.

A couple of students in attendance are from Las Vegas.

“I don’t want to get political but it is political,” said Sam Dreitzer.

The UCSB sophomore said he was born in one of the hospitals caring for countless victims.

“I was born at Sunrise and on twitter I saw it covered with blood of victims it hurts a lot when it hits home.As far as the vigil it means more than I can possibly express.” said Dreitzer,

Another UCSB sophomore from Las Vegas said he was feeling homesick.

” The fact I couldn’t be there was disheartening I couldn’t focus. This is where I grew up, they need me and I am not there. You feel so useless and it is not a great feeling,” said Blake Mirolla.

They plan to deal with the stress by donating blood and getting involved in the political process.
