Police investigating deadly shooting in Oxnard

Oxnard police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the City of Oxnard on July 19.

Police said the shooting victim, identified as 24-year-old Oxnard resident Albert Salazar, was found inside a car at the Oxnard Police Department’s parking lot at 251 S. C Street where officers tried to keep him alive until medical personnel arrived on scene.

Police said the car Salazar was found in had been driven there but it’s unclear who drive the car.

Salazar was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Just before Salazar arrived at the police station, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of West Guava Street, about two miles away from the police station, after receiving 911 calls reporting shots fired. Police confirmed that Salazar had been shot at this location.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this time but police said gang motivation has not been ruled out. This is Oxnard’s 11th homicide of the year.

There is currently no description of the suspect or suspects in this case.
