Development proposal raised questions following removal of story poles

Urban Hikers took a photo of story poles at Yananali and Garden Streets that didn’t stay up very long.

The photo, shared on Noozhawk, shows the outline of a proposed commercial project that includes retail restaurants and a market a couple blocks from the beach in Santa Barbara.

Some people prefer the industrial storage that is already in place, other people think the city should find a way to incorporate workforce housing above retail and restaurants.

Repairman Grant Shaulis said, “It’s probably going to be a difficult issue.”

A City approved incentive program geared toward fast-tracking housing units may lead to a changes in the plan.

City planners and members of the Historic Landmarks Commission visited the location in the Spring.

Changes could follow an environmental review.
