Family reunited with beloved dog after 7 years apart

When the Pratt family got their beloved dog Kona stolen from their home, they never thought they would see their pet again. Seven years later, they were reunited–and boy what a sweet reunion it was!

The reunion was broadcasted on Facebook Live. Kona the dog didn’t seem to recognize Shannon Pratt and her three daughters but was very welcoming to the family nevertheless. There were tears of happiness shed and even a family photo taken.

Pratt said Kona was stolen from her backyard seven years ago when she still lived in Ventura County. Kona’s collar was left behind.

Fast forward to June 3, 2017. Kona was picked up by Oxnard Animal Control and brought to Ventura County Animal Services where her microchip implant was scanned. That microchip led to Pratt who drove down three days later from her current home in Bakersfield to take Kona back.

You can watch the video of the heartfelt reunion below.

Ventura County Animal Services reminds the community of the importance of having your pet microchipped.

“It’s just the best feeling when the microchip scanner beeps! It means the pet has a microchip and the chances of reuniting pets with their owners increases exponentially!” said Tara Diller, Director of Ventura County Animal Services
