Third murder in as many days reported in Oxnard

The Oxnard Police Department is investigating the third murder to occur in the city in the last three days.

The latest murder occurred early Friday morning on the 2700 block of El Dorado Avenue.

At around 3:00 a.m. Oxnard police officers responded to the area for reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived they located a male shooting victim and began administering first-aid until fire and emergency medical responders arrived.

The man was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he later died.

He has been identified as Jorge Coria, 42, of Oxnard.

Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit took over the scene and are investigating the shooting.

Investigators believe Coria may have been affiliated with an Oxnard gang. The motive for the murder is under investigation but gang affiliation has not been ruled out.

There is no indication that the latest murder is related to the shooting deaths of Aaron Austin and Eduardo Leon Viveros, who were both shot and killed in separate incidents on Tuesday.

The latest murder is the ninth in Oxnard since the beginning of the year and the third in three days.

Oxnard police are planning to increase their patrol presence with increased overtime and reallocation of resources. Neighboring police agencies have also offered their assistance.

In a press release, Oxnard Police Chief Scott Whitney said:

“We take every one of these homicides personally, regardless of the circumstances. Our detectives are working day and night on these cases to bring justice for the victims’ families.”

Oxnard police is asking the public to immediately report any suspicious behavior they may witness.

Anyone with information regarding recent homicide cases in the city is asked to contact contact Sergeant Alex Arnett at (805) 385-7763. The city of Oxnard offers a $10,000 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and conviction in homicide cases.
