Ventura firefighters injured after ceiling collapses in burning house

Two Ventura city firefighters are recovering from minor injuries received when a roof collapsed at a vacant home in Ventura.

The pair were a part of a crew that responded to the fire on the 2300 block of Woodpecker Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

The fire started in a second floor bedroom and moved to the attic. Boarded up windows and doors impeded the firefighters’ ability to extinguish the flames.

The fire was eventually put out after about 25 minutes.

The two injured firefighters were treated at a local hospital and released. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
