A Ventura church getting ready to host 6th annual prom for special needs students

Mission Church in Ventura will celebrate its sixth annual “Night To Remember” on May 19th. The free prom celebrates special needs students between the ages of 12-25.

Each student is provided with a dress or tux, as well as make-up and hair styling, dinner and photos. And it doesn’t stop there. A limousine drops the students off to walk on a red carpet in front of cheering paparazzi. From there, the celebration moves to the dance floor.

“There are guys that want to sleep in their tux because they have never been able to wear one,” said Mike Hickerson, the lead Pastor at Mission Church. “Probably the thing that surprised us the most was the impact it had on the families. They never thought their child would ever get the opportunity to experience a prom night, or a limo ride or even getting a formal photo.”

More than 400 students are expected to attend this years dance taking place at the Ventura Fair Grounds.

Mission Church is accepting dress donation and volunteers for the event.
