Reagan biographer Lou Cannon reflects on election
Ronald Reagan biographer Lou Cannon knows people like to compare presidential elections but he said this election is unique.
” We have never had a situation like this, Ronald Reagan had been Governor of California for 8 years with a budget larger than all but a few nations of the world. We’ve never had anyone as inexperienced in government as Trump. Does that matter? We’re going to find out,” said Cannon.
The editorial advisor to State Net Capitol Journal said Democrats looking for someone to blame should look in the mirror and pollsters should go back to the drawing board.
Cannon said the party didn’t appeal to people who voted for Bernie Sanders and many voters including himself voted for Hillary because she wasn’t Donald Trump.
Even so, Cannon said it is time to give Donald Trump a chance.
“She won the popular vote, but he won the electoral and we have had four other people who served and didn’t win the popular vote,” said Cannon.
Cannon said Democrats and Republicans may find common ground when it comes to infrastructure repairs even if it adds to the deficit.
Since day one, Cannon said Trump said he would rebuild roads, highways and bridges.
The new administration will take some getting used to.
Cannon’s wife Mary said he woke up last night and said Hillary Clinton isn’t going to be president and she had to remind him that is was not a dream.
