Chromatic Gate that looks like a rainbow gets a fall cleaning
The iconic “Chromatic Gate” designed by the late Montecito artist Herbert Bayer is getting a fall cleaning.
Art historians have said Bayer got some of his inspiration from Kandinsky.
Some people call it a rainbow arch.
People often walk under the arch and take pictures of it as they head to Santa Barbara’s East Beach.
The city of Santa Barbara hired a crew from Silverlake Conservation to clean it without harming the sculpture’s bright colors.
They started on Monday and plan to be finished in a few days.
