Recreational Pot Use Qualifies For CA Ballot

California voters will soon decide whether it should be legal to get high on marijuana without a prescription.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Alex Padilla said proponents turned in more than the 365,880 signatures needed to qualify for the November ballot.

The measure would allow people 21 and older to buy an ounce of marijuana or marijuana products at licensed retail outlets. They would also be allowed to grow up to six pot plants for personal use.

It would raise an estimated $1 billion a year in tax revenue that could be used to reduce public safety costs.

Pot use may be losing its counterculture stoner portrayed made famous by Cheech and Chong in their 1970’S film “Up in Smoke.”

Gayle Ramirez, a mother of two sons, said she wouldn’t smoke pot, but that doesn’t mean she would she oppose the measure.

Other fear marijuana will be a gateway to harder drugs.

Cassidy Donely said she would vote yes. She is a medicinal user already. “It has helped me, I have anxiety and ADHD, I’m chill and don’t have to be on pills all the time,” said Donely.

Voters will not see political ads during children’s programs. There are restrictions.

There is an online campaign to stop it at http://stoppot2016.com/campaign and there is a pro compaing at http://norml.org/.
