Freeway Pursuit Ends in Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara police gave way to a chase of who they say is a wanted felon just after 7 p.m. Wednesday. The pursuit started when the suspect, 37-year-old Leo Gomez, failed to yield around the area of 300 East Haley Street.
The pursuit then ended up on the southbound side of Highway 101. Speeds stayed between 70-75 MPH. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit when Gomez reached the San Ysidro area in Montecito.
At one point, Gomez got off at Santa Claus Lane and began driving back northbound towards Santa Barbara.
The chase ended just before 7:30 p.m. at Coast Village Road when Gomez exited Hermosillo Road.A female passenger, 40-year-old Angela Marie Beltran from Santa Barbara, was in the car during the chase. Police questioned her and arrested her for marijuana related charges. Gomez was also arrested.
The suspect had several felony warrants out for his arrest, including domestic violence charges and drug related charges, police said.
