Woman Trapped Under Fallen Palm Tree After Ventura Crash

One person is recovering from a car crash on Highway 101 at the San Jon Road exit in Ventura. The accident happened around 12:27 p.m. Tuesday.

Ventura City Fire crews arrived on scene to find a mid-sized pickup truck over an embankment next to the freeway with a woman trapped inside the truck. Crews said a fallen palm tree laid across the vehicle and across the roadway blocking traffic.

Fire crews had to cut away a portion of the palm tree in order to extricate the victim. She was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

Ventura police, American Medical Response, and the California Highway Patrol also assisted with the rescue.

It’s unclear what caused the driver to veer off the road and crash. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
