Paso Robles Wins CIF Northern Division Title

Paso Robles reigns in the rain!

The Bearcats edged Newbury Park 13-10 to win the CIF Southern Section Northern Division championship. It’s Paso Robles’ ninth overall CIF crown and first since 2000.

Both teams entered the game averaging over 40 points per game but the wet, sloppy conditions turned this contest into a defensive struggle.

Paso Robles led 7-3 at the half as Jonthan Baldwin caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Justin Davis on a fourth and three play-action pass that fooled the Panthers.

Newbury Park scored in the final seconds of the third quarter as Daniel Prieto found Darick Holmes Jr in the back of the endzone to make it 10-7 Panthers.

Paso Robles answered on its next drive as Justin Davis scored from 1-yard out, the PAT failed and the Bearcats led 13-10 with just over seven minutes to play in the game.

Newbury Park recovered a fumble with under three minutes to go but they were stopped on fourth and one at midfield and the Bearcats ran out the clock and celebrated.

The Bearcats are 13-1 on the season and will find out Sunday if they are selected for a CIF Southern Section Regional game that will be played next weekend. The State Championships are in two weeks.

Newbury Park ends the year 11-3.
