Demonstrators Rally Ahead of United Nations Climate Summit
Rallies to raise awareness about climate change drew crowds to New York, London, Melbourne and here at home in Ventura.
The marches are called the “People’s Climate March” and are leading up to the United Nations Climate Summit on Tuesday.
About 200 demonstrators made their way from City Hall to the Pier in Ventura on Sunday.
“It concerns me that people think its not real. It obviously to me is a real thing something that I have seen in my lifetime. Its absurd to me that some people think California doesn’t have a drought, that the ocean is not warmer, the icecaps are not smaller and that’s its all some propaganda,” said Damon Williams of Santa Barbara.
More than 120 world leaders, including President Obama, are expected to convene for the meeting.
The leaders are working towards creating a new global climate treaty by the end of 2015.
“I think its really pertinent that the United States is becoming more of a leader and an engaged participant in the discussion,” said Emily Genuardi of Santa Barbara.
