Cal Poly Players Charged in Fraternity Robbery
Five suspended Cal Poly football players and a woman will face robbery charges after an incident on August 9 at a fraternity house near campus.
The players are accused of attempting to rob residents of the fraternity house at gunpoint.
On Friday, San Luis Obispo County prosecutors decided all five players and a female accomplice will be charged with conspiracy to commit residential burglary, attempted residential robbery, attempted residential burglary, resisting arrest by threat and violence, and false imprisonment.
The accused will be arraigned on Monday morning. They are: Cameron Marcel Akins, 18; Cortland Josiah Fort, 20; Kristaan Sterling Ivory, 21; Jake Anthony Brito, 19; and Dominique Alize Love, 19.
“Crimes committed with guns are a threat to the safety of our entire community. We have absolutely no tolerance for violent gun crimes,” said SLO County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jerret Gran.
Each count against the accused carry prison terms of more than four years. Firearms charges would add up to 10 additional years if convicted.
The incident on August 11 was at the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity on California Boulevard. Police got a 911 call about 2:30 a.m. When the first officer arrived at the fraternity he says he saw Akins confronting another man in the courtyard. The officer says Akins tried to run away.
