San Marcos High Alumna To Play In Women’s World Cup Of Baseball

Ghazaleh Sailors, a San Marcos High School alumna, broke barriers years ago in local baseball, then moved on to cross international lines.

The 21-year-old now plays for University of Maine-Presque Isle and leaves tonight for South Korea. Sailors is pulling double-duty as a pitcher and second baseman for Team USA in the LG Women’s World Cup of Baseball.

Sailors admits her Korean “isn’t very good” but she’s very excited to make the trip and play.

“Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted to represent my country and I’ve done it once before,” said Sailors. “When you have USA across your chest, it’s a pretty proud moment.”

The Santa Barbara woman traveled to Venezuela four years ago to compete and said now she has her “feet wet in international baseball.”

The teams will play four games over a period of six days. The event is sponsored by Baseball for All, a non-profit which provides equal opportunities for womens’ baseball.
